Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa is the original hot springs property at Arenal, and it’s built directly into a working thermal river fed by the volcano — a series of naturally heated pools and cascades running through landscaped tropical gardens, rather than a single pool deck. It’s a day-use destination as much as a hotel, and staying on-property means access to the springs without the crowds that visit for the day.
Most of a wellness-focused stay here revolves around simply moving between the different temperature pools and waterfalls through the resort’s gardens, paired with treatments at the on-site spa, which uses volcanic clay and local ingredients. A guided rainforest walk on the property’s own reserve trails is a good lower-key add for a morning, and the volcano views from several of the pools are hard to match elsewhere in Arenal.
Two to three nights is typical, often paired with a few more days elsewhere in the country.
The Arenal Volcano region is located in central Costa Rica and offers a wide range of wellness activities, including hot springs, spa treatments, yoga, and meditation. This area is known for its lush rainforest and stunning views of the Arenal Volcano.
