The small town of Vara Blanca is located between the Poás Volcano National Park and San José, home to the famous La Paz Waterfall gardens. The La Paz Waterfall Gardens is one of Costa Rica´s most visited Nature Park and Wildlife Refuge, offering countless ecologic attractions like the biggest butterfly observatory in the country, a Hummingbird Gallery, as well as a snake and bird house, following a frog’s exhibition.
Besides those the La Paz Waterfall Gardens offer several hiking trails and 5 different waterfalls. However you shouldn’t miss the famous Poás volcano with an impressive blue sulfuric pool that demonstrates its volcanic activity by giving off smoke into the air.
This is one of the most active volcanoes in Costa Rica, and has one of the largest craters in the world. You can visit this volcanic colossus without having to travel long distances. Apart from having one of the largest craters in the world, its location is more than convenient, as we find the Poas volcano in the mountainous forests of the Central Volcanic Mountain Range, where we can admire great and beautiful landscapes.
